Warminster Organic Malts

Which Organic Malt should I use?

For Organic Malts, the varieties, selection protocols, the malting processes and specifications are just the same as those for our conventional malts. So their extra contribution to beers and spirits is all about their provenance. Their low carbon footprint, their freedom from pesticide residues, and their more sustainable and resilient life cycle.

Warminster Maltings has had a long and highly successful engagement with Organic farmers since 2002, beginning with a concerted effort on the Cotswolds, understanding all the factors that contributed to top quality malting barley under an Organic farming regime. Key was positioning in the rotation to ensure pure stands of barley, and low grain nitrogen, but not too low!

Today, the Cotswolds, together with other Organic malting barley crops right across the U.K., consistently harvest both better yields and reliable quality, year on year, most of which goes for export to the near Continent. There is no doubt, within the U.K., and we are told particularly in France, Organic malts and beers is a market with huge untapped potential!
